How Do You Train for a Winter Ironman Living in Vermont?

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had to answer this question. Yes, it is hard, and yes, it does requires A LOT of mental focus and will power; but is it boring? No way!

My workouts are too hard to be boring. My 10 week build up to Challenge Wanaka, an Iron distance triathlon in Lake Wanaka, NZ on January 19, 2013, has started— just in time for the cold weather! Throughout my career, I have raced many winter Ironman races while training exclusively indoors. I have had great success with podium finishes and top bike splits by practicing the methodology of “quality over quantity.” Over the course of the next 10 weeks, I will be posting a weekly video on our forum. The videos will be clips of my key swim, bike, and run sessions, along with some tips for success. My theme for the next 10 weeks: shut up and crush it! No complaining, no excuses!
